Meet Hopebox's own Rockstar, Kendra Reese

You can donate to Kendra through Venmo @givehopebox

My cancer story began right here at Hopebox. The day after my first rehearsal with the Oliver cast, I found out I had Stage 2 breast cancer. Prior to that I found a lump and had it checked out during a routine mammogram. The news was devastating but I was hopeful since we caught it early on. I started chemo one month later when Oliver opened.  My biggest concern was that I would be too weak or sick to participate in all the Oliver shows. In the end, I made it to every show and rehearsal. I got lucky!

I still have chemo treatments till the end of September. After that, I get the month of October off to heal before a double mastectomy in November. Then they will do an MRI. If they do find something, radiation will be the next step. If not, reconstructive surgery will happen in February.

I grew up in Roy, spending all my time playing every sport I could. I am the proud mama of amazing twin boys Zander and Gavin. They are now 20 and the time has flown. I love them so much and could not be happier with the young men they have become.  Ken is my person. We are joined at the hip and being apart is rare. We are doers taking on all life's challenges. We love road trips and just found our forever RV, A 1966 Winnebago that we are bringing back to life.  I love having projects with Ken. Four years ago Ken told me that he could not keep a bassist in his band to save his life.  So I told him to teach me how to play.  I have been playing bass in Silence the Critic, an all-original Ogden rock band, ever since. I love my life and am so thankful for all the tiny moments!!!

You can support Kendra by purchasing tickets to Jekyll & Hyde at The Hopebox Theatre from October 4th-26th. Or you can donate to Kendra directly through Venmo @givehopebox.
